Question 2
Bill from Des Moines asks:
We just bought our son an X-Box, and he asked us if we
could get X-Box Live. What is X-Box Live? How does it work with
the Internet?
Answer
In short, the X-Box has an Ethernet port in the back of it that
allows you to connect it to the Internet. If an X-Box owner chooses
to he or she can subscribe to X-Box Live, (a service from Microsoft
with a yearly subscription fee). X-Boxes work just fine without the
X-Box live BUT if an X-Box owner does subscribe to X-Box Live they
have to ability to play many of their game titles online with/against
other X-Box Live subscribers that also own that game. Additionally
subscribers of the X-Box Live service can talk to other X-Box gamers
live during game play and also see if their gaming buddies are online.
X-Box Live is a Microsoft service, and it requires a high-speed connection
to the Internet (DSL or Cable Modem), it will not work with dialup
Internet connections (like the Sony Playstation 2).
